Kennell, Maguire, Hayward,Scott, Baker win gold at Island HS championships

NAC Victoria elite high school athletes won several gold medals at the 2012 Vancouver Island high school track and field championships.  TIa Baker (Frances Kelsey) won gold in the women’s 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay to earn the Most Inspirational Athlete of the meet award.  Her Frances Kelsey 4 x 100m relay team set a new championship record of 48.85 eclipsing the mark of 49.23 set by Oak Bay in 2005.  Liam Kennel (Oak Bay) won the men’s 1500m in 4:03, Seamus Maguire (Reynolds) won the men’s 800m in a new personal best of 1:59, Lexi Scott (Oak Bay) won the 400 hurdles in 1:09, Bree Neale (Oak Bay) won the 400m in 1:00.41, Thomas Getty (Mt Douglas) won the men’s 3000m in 9:01, Katelyn Hayward (Mt Douglas) won the women’s 3000m in 10:28,  Davie Boyd (St Andrews) won the men’s 110 hurdles and Nick Taylor (Oak Bay) won the junior boys 400m in 52.2.  Next up is the BC high school championships in Burnaby June 1-2, 2012.

McInnis wins Q Series 800m

Vikes sophomore Shauna McInnis, a graduate of Stelly’s Secondary, led the field in the women’s 800m at the first race of the Victoria Q Track Series, winning in a time of 2:14.6.

Dylan Haight (Oak Bay Secondary) won the men’s 3000m in 8:24. Full results and race videos

Nate Brannen – Interview – A-goal: 3:35.50

Cambridge, Ontario native Nate Brannen, is a twenty-nine-year-old Canadian middle-distance athlete who specializes in the 1500m distance. He was a sub-4 minute miler (3:59.85) in high school, which attracted the attention of various US colleges.

Elite HS athletes shine at Lower Island Championships

Four NAC Victoria Elite high school program athletes won outstanding athlete awards at the Lower Island high school track and field championships held Wed, May 9th at UVic’s Centennial Stadium.  Oak Bay’s grade 10 Liam Kennell smashed one of the oldest Lower Island records on the books

Brittany King

Weir broke the senior boys 2000m steeplechase record running 6:21.  Grade 10 Jordyn Piercy of St. Andrews won the junior girls award for her excellent performance in the 300m hurdles.  Spectrum’s grade 11 Brittany King won the senior girls outstanding track athlete award for winning the 800m, 1500m and the 3000m.
