Vikes presented with bursary in honour of local runner Ken Smythe

VICTORIA, B.C. – On Nov. 24, at the 28th annual Harriers Gunner Shaw Memorial 10-km Cross-Country Classic, the University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s cross-country teams received a $10,000 cheque from the Prairie Inn Harriers club. The money will go towards setting up the “Ken Smythe Cross-Country Bursary,” an annual award given to a male or female Vikes cross-country athlete in need of financial support.
Vikes take on Thames Valley tomorrow in London

VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s cross country teams are heading to London, Ont. this weekend looking to hijack the top spot in the country from defending CIS men’s and women’s team champions, the University of Guelph Gryphons. The Vikes men are ranked second in the country heading into the national championship race hosted by Western University, while the Vikes women are currently at third.

Vikes win 2012 Beaver Classic

VICTORIA, B.C. – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s cross country team won their third team title of the season while the women’s cross country team won their first of the year in the 2012 Beaver Classic held in Corvallis, Ore., Oct. 19. In the 8-km event the men’s team posted a score of 34 and finished with an average time of 0:25:00 while in the 6-km race the women’s team scored a 22 and crossed the finish line with an average time of 0:22:03.

Run Jump Throw (ages 5-11)
- Athletics Canada’s core skills and grassroots program for Track and Field
- Teaches FUNdamental Skills of Running Jumping and Throwing
- Follows SPORT CANADA’s Playground to Podium LTAD www.LTAD.ca
- Skill progressions which form the foundation for all sports with specific Technical skill progressions for track and field events
- Teaching progressions based on physiological growth and development
- FUN, active and inclusive learning environment will be stressed
Speed Agility Skills Program (ages 11-13, 13-15 & 16-18)
This program is focused on providing you with increasing levels of athleticism that are important to your coach. You will see improvements in the following areas of speed, strength, footwork, vertical and horizontal jumps, endurance, hand-eye coordination, agility and special perception.
